2025 Land release review
Have your say on streamlining the land release process
The Queensland Government is reviewing how land is made available for exploration, production and commercialisation. This will ensure the process is flexible, efficient and aligned with Queensland’s evolving priorities.
Land release is a foundational part of how Queensland supports a strong, sustainable and competitive resources sector. It helps maintain a steady pipeline of exploration opportunities that will attract investment and support regional jobs and economic growth.
Land has traditionally been released through the Queensland Exploration Program (QEP). The 2025 Land release review is an opportunity to modernise this process and better respond to industry needs, while also considering environmental, cultural, landholder and planning interests.
The Queensland Government has established the Resources Cabinet Committee to deliver change that will keep Queensland’s resources sector thriving. The 2025 Land release review proposes reforms that will support this, by improving regulatory processes, delivering faster and clearer decisions, boosting industry competitiveness, and ensuring better outcomes for regional economies.
Proposed changes to the land release process include:
- A more frequent and efficient land release process
- A streamlined competitive tender process where appropriate
- Greater flexibility for the Minister to determine the best release method
- Improved transparency in decision-making
