The Department of Resources has sought feedback on a proposal to amalgamate North Talwood and South Talwood localities into a single locality named Talwood.

North Talwood and South Talwood were two localities within the Goondiwindi Regional Council. The township of Talwood lies at the border of these former localities within North Talwood, approximately 90km west of Goondiwindi.

The proposal was suggested by Goondiwindi Regional Council following requests from the local community.

The community believed that amalgamation into one locality named ‘Talwood’ would:

  • better align with community identity,
  • resolve issues with addressing, and
  • improve the provision of postal and emergency services in the area.

Prior to making a suggestion, Goondiwindi Regional Council undertook a community engagement process on the proposed amalgamation. More information on council’s engagement activities are available on their web page.
